You might have asked yourself, how to create a detailed brick ledge in 3D in just few clicks in Revit. I know there are some ways doing that such as adding reveals to the wall structure or just doing it in 2D, but there is an easier way to make it happened. In this article I like to show you how to create brick ledge in Revit that you can see in any section and 3D and it is possible because Revit makes designing and detailing in 3D easier to save you time and money.
In this tutorial I am going to show you how to create a 3-dimensional brick ledge in a 12” foundation wall at 4”x8”.
Step 1: Select the foundation wall and type PR to open the Wall Properties dialog box
Step 2: Click on Edit Type to open Type Properties dialog box
Step 3: Click on Edit to open the Edit Assembly dialog box
Step 4: Add a new Layer by clicking on Insert button
Step 5: Change the size of two layers to 4” and 8” and also change the Material of the new Layer to Cast-In-Place Concrete (As shown in the image bellow)
Step 6: Change the View to Section: Modify Type Attributes and zoom into the top of the wall
Step 7: Click on Modify button
Step 8: Click on the line on top of the foundation wall where the brick ledge is going to be placed and unlock it (Shown in the image)
Step 9: Click OK two times to go back to the Instance Properties dialog box
Step 10: Change the Top Extension Distance to -8 inches and click OK (Shown in the image)
You might say this tutorial is long and you have to go through 10 steps, but remember that all 10 steps happen in two dialog boxes.
In this article we learned how to create 3D brick ledge in a pre-cast concrete foundation wall. In my next article I am going to show you how to cover the brick ledge with 3 brick veneer from the exterior wall which is seating on top of the foundation wall.
